After her sister gained support from Monte Cecilia, Allison* knew she could ask for help in attempting to leave her Housing New Zealand house, owing to ongoing family tensions and overcrowding. With her two young daughters, Allison moved from place to place, mainly staying with relatives as she coped with her overwhelming situation. With help from her Monte Cecilia Social Worker, she was able to gain access to the Social Housing Register and Monte’s transitional housing.

After four weeks in her temporary home, the Monte team were able to offer Allison a home with a backyard that reminded her of her own childhood, offering her the chance to recreate happy memories with her daughters.

*Not her real name.
