Angela*, John* and their three young children came to Monte Cecilia after receiving an eviction notice from their landlord. The family had searched for private rentals but was unsuccessful in finding anything they could afford.

The couple were in a difficult situation, with Angela’s husband diagnosed with a heart condition and advised by their GP not to work, and Angela recovering from recently giving birth. This made it difficult for either parent to work and finding a private rental proved too expensive.

The team at Monte Cecila assessed them and found that their eviction date was sooner than expected. The social worker supported the family into Emergency housing through Work and Income and the family was soon housed in a Monte transitional home where they were further supported by their social worker. Monte also assisted the family with food parcels during the lock down and they were soon housed by Kainga Ora.

In their new home, the family continued to receive support from the Monte team with their furniture and whiteware. Angela and her husband are now settling in well and are happy as they can finally have stability and a routine with their young children.

Angela was grateful for Monte Cecilia, saying “Monte Cecilia has very good service” and they “enjoyed their stay at Monte Transitional Housing…” as there was “more privacy”.
