Harriet*, a solo mother living in an overcrowded home with her two daughters and two sons in the Bay of Plenty, was overjoyed when she received a phone call from Monte Cecilia offering her a transitional home in Mangere.

This was the fresh start Harriet had told her social worker she wanted for herself and her tamariki. She moved to Auckland, leaving behind an abusive partner and unsupportive whanau who had sold all her furniture and thrown her and her tamariki out of the house.

While living in the Monte Cecilia home the Monte Cecilia team supported Harriet and her whanau, collaborating to achieve an acceptable housing rating which would lead to her securing a community home.

Harriet is now in a community home with her whanau and is working with the Monte team to set and achieve her goals for her whanau’s future. Harriet says that words can’t express how grateful she is for Monte Cecilia’s help and support.
