Mum with four year and two year-old living in a garage

Referral from the Turuki Healthcare in Mangere. A single mother with two children, a four-year-old boy and two-year-old girl all living in the garage which was not an appropriate place to stay for this family and their children. 

The family was receiving a solo parent’s benefit and was not enough for her to find an affordable rental house for her children although she tried several times to apply for the private rental house but was rejected due to low income, high debts and also being a single mother.

This mum and her children were supported by a Social Worker from Monte Cecilia to get into Emergency Housing in Takanini. Family Stayed for three weeks before Monte found a private long term, safe, warm & secure rental in Mangere and contracted under Income related Rent Subsidy. The family was able now to feed themselves and to address debts.
