October 10 was a historic day for Monte Cecilia Housing Trust when we opened our new 30 x two bedroom units for families in housing crisis which means for many homeless.

Kaumātua from Pukaki Marae lead a cultural blessing of the site at its completion and then assisted in our welcome to the Prime Minister. Most Reverend Bishop Patrick Dunn, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland also blessed the site.

It was awesome having our New Zealand Prime Minister, the  Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern address the crowd of around 180 guests and friends, commending Monte Cecilia for this development and the way we had future proofed apartment’s by putting in high speed fibre, solar power and being totally self-contained allowing the units to become community social housing when emergency housing no longer required. Our Prime Minister then cutting the ribbon to open this amazing facility which also has our main office facilities.

The facility was full of families (195 adults and children) in a safe warm home by the end of that month.
